“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed. We are perplexed, but not driven to despair. We are hunted down, but never abandoned by God. We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed. Through suffering, our bodies continue to share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.”
During my time in ministry, I’ve found that there are three types of people when it comes to dealing with challenges in life: The potato, the egg, and the coffee bean. When the water of life starts to boil… how do each react? First, the potato. When dealing with hot water… they get soft and weak. These are the people who fold under adversity… quitting long before they need to or should. Then, the egg… when they are immersed into the boiling water of trouble, they harden. They don’t let anything (or anyone in) and try to deal with things on their own.
Finally, the coffee bean… they are exposed to hot water… and change it to coffee. They deal with trouble…and don’t sit back to let it affect them… they actively change their situations for the better. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4 that troubles are coming.. but God will be there! Which are you… potato, egg, or coffee bean? Decide which you will be before trouble hits…and you’ll greatly reduce your chances of boiling over!
